⛓ Chain Reaction

How to Play Chain Reaction

Chain Reaction is a fast-paced word puzzle game where you race against the clock — and sometimes a real opponent — to fill letter slots and complete a chain of connected words. Every letter counts. Every second matters.

The Basics

Each puzzle gives you a series of letter slots arranged in a chain. Your goal is to discover words that fit the slots and connect with each other — filling in the chain before time runs out. Words link together through shared letters at their boundaries, creating a satisfying cascade of connections when you get it right.

Letters you enter appear in real time. When you complete a valid word that fits its slot, the letters lock in and your score jumps. Complete the whole chain and you trigger a Chain Reaction — a bonus cascade that rewards speed and accuracy.

Scoring

Points are awarded based on several factors:

The leaderboard tracks top scores for each game mode. Weekly competitions reset every Monday, so there is always a fresh shot at the top spot.

Power-Ups

Earn power-ups through gameplay and use them strategically during puzzles:

Power-up inventory is earned through daily challenges, streak milestones, and Gauntlet victories. Use them wisely — they don't replenish automatically.

Gauntlet Mode — In Depth

The Gauntlet pits you against a series of themed AI opponents, each with their own avatar, personality, and difficulty level. Opponents start at a manageable pace and escalate in speed and accuracy as you progress.

Each opponent has a mood system that reflects the match state in real time. When you pull ahead, your opponent becomes visibly frustrated. When they are dominating, they look confident. Keep an eye on the in-game portrait — a flustered bot can be a sign your strategy is working.

Defeat all opponents to unlock Hero characters — special avatars with unique visual themes that you can use in your profile and PvP matches.

Chain Duel PvP — In Depth

Chain Duel is Chain Reaction's live multiplayer mode. Both players receive the same puzzle at the same moment and race to complete it. Scores update in real time via WebSocket — you can see your opponent's progress as a live score counter on screen.

You can challenge friends directly using a Friend Code, or enter the matchmaking queue to be paired with a player at a similar skill level based on your Elo rating. After three duels in a row, a brief ad plays before the next match.

Duels contribute to your win/loss record and global Elo ranking. Series wins (best-of-three or best-of-five) are available for players who want a longer competitive session.

Daily Streaks

Playing the Daily Challenge every day builds your streak. Longer streaks unlock score multipliers and earn you bonus inventory items. Missing a day resets your streak, so set a reminder and keep the chain alive.

The app sends an optional push notification (Android) each day when the new Daily Challenge goes live, so you never miss your streak.

Tips for New Players

Start with the anchor letters. Each slot boundary shows a shared letter. Lock in what you know at the edges first, then fill the middle.

Short words are underrated. A three-letter word that snaps into place in one second is worth more than a long word you spend eight seconds second-guessing.

Save power-ups for Gauntlet bosses. The final few opponents in a Gauntlet run are significantly faster than the earlier ones. A well-timed Freeze or Scramble can turn a loss into a win.

In PvP, watch the score delta. If your opponent jumps ahead early, use a Disruptor immediately rather than waiting — disruptions have more psychological impact when the opponent is on a roll.
